Ubuntu Explained
An ethic or humanist philosophy focusing on people’s relations with each other summed up in the statement “I am who I am because of who we all are”.
Ubuntu, as explained by Bishop Desmond Tutu:
“Ubuntu is a concept that we have in our Bantu languages at home. Ubuntu is the essence of being a person. It means that we are people through other people. We cannot be fully human alone. We are made for interdependence, we are made for family. When you have ubuntu, you embrace others. You are generous, compassionate. If the world had more ubuntu, we would not have war. We would not have this huge gap between the rich and the poor. You are rich so that you can make up what is lacking for others. You are powerful so that you can help the weak, just as a mother or father helps their children. This is God's dream.”

- I believe in ubuntu, justice and equality. The reason the world is so whacked is due to a lack of equality. It’s the root of injustice, poverty, oppression, and even HIV/AIDS. I believe I will be part of changing that. I believe we are all called to serve the poor and that the opportunity and process of serving others is the greatest gift in the world. Having a purpose is liberating. I believe in revolutionary behavior. I could care less about death, end times, or hell. I will serve to the death. I believe in loyalty and respect; brotherhood. I believe life is about relationships and community. I believe we don’t have the right to serve until we LISTEN to those we wish to serve…for a long time. I don’t believe in finding a cause. I believe in falling in love with people to the point in which I could not bear to see them suffer. I was blessed with a ridiculous amount of faith. I believe in God, and in humanity and the good in all of us. I believe in awareness; in being constantly in tune with Christ, people, and my surroundings. I believe in “7 Breaths”. I am a driven, calculated and unrelenting machine. I thank God every day that I get to live this life.
